It could be a not-well-seated bullet, which essentially turn the gun into a pipe bomb.  The tolerance of measuring black powder is quite loose compare with that for the charges of the smokeless powder in modern cartridges.  In any event, I would use only genuine black powder in a muzzleloader.

据说他们打猎时是这么做的。俺在靶场看到的都是各种零碎铺一摊，用专门的“量筒”按体积量火药。
