(04-25) 13:59 PDT DALY CITY -- An 84-year-old Daly City man was charged Friday with premeditated attempted murder and assault with a firearm for allegedly trying to kill a doctor he believed had unsuccessfully treated him for pain, authorities said. Raymond Iwase went to the second floor of a medical building at 1500 Southgate Ave. about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and encountered his intended target in a hallway. He brandished a gun and said, "You gave me a shot in the past and you made me sick," according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. The doctor, whose name wasn't released, ran away and heard a gunshot as he escaped, authorities said. He called police, leading officers to seal off the neighborhood and search the building. Investigators found bullet fragments in the hallway and confirmed that the alleged assailant had fled. About 10 p.m. Wednesday, police arrested Iwase at his home on Plymouth Circle. Police found a gun and ammunition at his home, but the gun used in the shooting wasn't recovered, Wagstaffe said. The doctor had treated Iwase at the medical building about two years ago, but it was unclear whether the treatments were successful, Wagstaffe said. After being arrested, Iwase reportedly told police, "I'm an old man. There's nothing you should be worried about." Iwase is being held without bail at County Jail in Redwood City. He has declined to speak to reporters.
