Bowhunting in progress. Just shot a doe. Updated

Shot a doe. Tracking. Arrow is with her. But found blood trail. Wait for 30min.

Heard big stump when she ran away. Shot was 24 yd. first blood trail on leaves about 7yd away. I am waiting.
Waited 30min. First blood trail about 4 yd away. She ran away up to a burm. I followed the blood trail to the forest edge. Couldn't find it anymore.

Walked out of woods and saw all grass land dotted with small shrubs. Couldn't see blood trail anymore. I zigzagged along the grass land. One deer was bedding there. She/he jumped up and dashed away. I would have shoot him too if given time.

2 hrs passed. I wanted to giving up.

I came crossing back to the original trail and back across the railway. Saw another hunter, who also shot one too but couldn't see any blood trail. The name is Dennis.  I asked if he would help. He said he had 23 years hunting experience, and also had lost some deer on the grassland as well. He agreed to see my blood trail. Man he was really good, quickly discover more blodd trail.

The first blood splatter was thumb size. The blood drops indicated the direction. But the drops became smaller and smaller. Dennis was really good. He was able to trace way deep into the grassland. Grasses were thick, and the blood color hard to distinguish because some leaves were red too and grass blades were thin.  We traced another hour, and covered two miles.  The trail was a big circle loop. The deer came back from the grassland into the woods. The blood pool were getting bigger. We wondered how could a deer survive that long.

The deer came back into the woods and crossed the rail way and into woods on the other side. She just kept going and eventually came out of woods and laid down in a small bush.

If it were not Dennis, I would never able to track it. I offered to share half of the meat. He said he still had seven in his freezer.

He it was, a small buck, about 90 lb, not even button buck. Should be very tasty. He was shot at the neck. He must have turned when I released the arrow. Dennis mentioned it was hard to spot and stalk because deer was alert and can easily jump the string. I could have waited more, but I thought he was ready to leave. He was behind some twigs, I shot him across the railway from a slightly higher gound point.

But anyway, I got him. A small buck, and my daughters should be happy to have fresh venison for dinner.

Lessons:
1. Extra careful when spot and stalk
2. Wait until deer is relaxed, then shoot. Only within 30 yd.
3. After shot, wait at least one hour if blood splatter not big enough.

Lucky you with crossbow!  I find spot and stalk easier with thick woods

你这个应该就是叫“button buck”。你们那里的鹿真大啊，这样的鹿也能有90磅。我们这里的button buck我看也就50磅。

另外，提醒你，野生动物拉回来最好先冷冻3、4天再食用，有备无患。

这个是防止寄生虫的方法？
好像日本的寿司店搞鱼都是这么弄的。

是的。野生动物没有经过任何检疫，所以要小心点。
