Since this is a guided hunting, it should be rather simple. We might have to pay half of the deposit ($750) now, and wait for next year's CA bear season -- I would like to do it around October or later.

I plan to hunt with 300 Win rifle, and 7mm might be also okay. I have hunted wild pig twice, goat once, and bufflo once.

Hunting in public land in CA is almost impossible -- too many hunters and few opportunity :-)

I am not sure about 3 day bear hunting trip. I think for bear minimum is five day trip for better chance. If you have a bad weather, it is all ruined. Plus they charge $1500 per person, 2 minimum. This means $3000 for one tag? I think  some canadian outfitters offer 5 day trip for ~$2000. I think it is better deal because: two people have two tags for $4000, and much better chance to bag one.

netcruise, I would go with you for a canadian trip or some northern bear county states for a five day trip.

If you can find any five bear hunting for $2000, I'll definitely go for it! Please let me know!

Actually I originally looking for a chance to hunt bear in Alaska for around $4000, and think for a warmup bear hunting in CA is a good deal :-)

Just FYI. Minnesota bear reports says about 30% success rate. Wisconsin about 50% success rate. For outfitters who guanrantee active baiting, the success rate is better. All these are predicated on you getting a bear permit lottery. I will check some Canadian outfitters it might be much easier to get bear tags.

There are lot of bear / elk hunts in Montana with good success rate. Bear hunt is around $2K. I would go with a elk trip with bear as bonus.

It seems there are a lot of bear in Archery Elk hunting season, but they recommend mule deer and whitetail for Rifle Elk hunting season. I'm okay with both options, but need find out beforehand to get the correct licenses.

If possible, please find out details on how to get licenses, prices, trip options, etc... I'd prefer late October or early November, and hope it's not too cold ... Also need find out the best clothes and boots for the whether. Thanks

To bring a long hunting gun to Canada is not complicated.
You need fill out and submit a form in advance, you can then bring the gun with you.
