Spring Bear Hunting Day 3

day 3:

- we started today going to another ridge
- mostly walking on ridges, and frequent stops, and glassing for extended period of time
- no bears in sight, did see some elks, see if you can spot them in the pictures.
- the whole day passed by pretty much with no event, although collected some mountain mushrooms (mkt price over $200/lb)
- finally we decided to bail out the next day if still no sighting
- we will switch to another secret bear location Phil discovered over his 15 bear hutning years. He had 8 bears under his belt, and can confidently claim he probably the bear expert hunter.
- we noticed quite a few ticks clinging to our clothing. It is important to remove them within 24 hours. They especially like to stay in waist belting area, or crouch area, or arm pits. Ticks have premitive light sensoring eyes. They stay at the tips of bush branches, with front legs hanging out waiting for hosts. When animals pass by, their shadow trigger ticks eyes, and they cling to the host.
- Ticks can carry some serious diseases. One of which is Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which can be fatal. Antibiotics can cure if detected early.
- I didn't feel any bites, but did fell sick after the trip. Just fever, muscle ache, and general fatigue for two weeks. As precaution, my doctor gave me antibiotics. Thas's why I didn't post these stories right after the trip.

Bear live in truly wild place. We hunt in state and federal forests. Rocky mountains are big places. Mountains every where. The key is to spend time out in the woods. A shortcut is to hire outfitters.
That's why canada, alaska are the best places to hunt.

Spot and stalk is true hunting. Baiting would be much easier.

Elk migrate and follow food source. In hunting season they will not be at this location.

I am curious how did you guys take care of the ticks, like a mutual tick check everyday? Did you use any repellent?
