Just watched a white tail study documentary on Netflix, a few take away points for myself to remember and share with deer hunters:
1. White tail has very bad eye sights, they can't figure out shapes and rely on movements. The darkness in early dawn and dusk actually helps them to see better, that's one of the reasons they are very active during those hours.
2. Their hearing is good, not great.
3. Their sense of smell is great, better than bloodhound, and can smell danger miles away.
4. They do detect changes in their regular routes, but that might not spook them unless they sense danger.
5. Idiotic human kindness is actually killing the deers, by feeding them and lure them into the residential areas and get them killed on the road.
It is the deer season, good luck.
