报警也不是义务（至少我们州的法律里没这么写），但自卫self defense并不等于you can only defend yourself。 Self defense的beneficiary包括任何人，total stranger，哪怕they don't ask for your help, don't want your help, would not thank you after you render your help, etc. You still have a God given right to self defense. 因为犯罪不只是concern罪犯和受害人，犯罪是有社会危害性的。 现在罪犯在杀那个不需要我help的受害者，杀完了就可能杀其他人，包括我的家人和我自己。这是为什么self defense does not need the victim's consent. We don't HAVE to risk our lives to lend a helping hand, and the law/government doesn't even encourage us to do so. But we all know what's right from wrong, and it's not the law that give us the guidance。。。
