The front ring of marauder is adjustable. You should be able to adjust it so it doesnot touch barrel.

Raccoons are very tough, You need to place the shot right behind the ear.  Never shoot at the forehead, it will bounce off. The first shot is the most important. You want to kill your pray ethically and be grateful and respectful for a life you just took.
