savage long range hunter 300 winmag sucks!

I was planning to use this supposedly long range hunter to hunt elk this fall, but utterly disappointed and frustrated at the result. Good thing I have my trusted. 308 Winchester model 70.

Basically grouping never g
ot closer than 2moa. When the barrel is warm, can fly to 8" at 100yd  3 shots.

Checked and torqued action screws to 40"lb, one piece Weaver 20moa base, weaver 6 screw rings, with 40"lb base screws, and 20"lb ring screws,  lapped and aligned for Nikon monarch 4-16 scope

Made sure barrel is free floating, broke in barrel with first 20 rd. Cold barrel group about 2moa. After that all fliers. Tried winchester soft point, federal softpoint, Remington core lock, federal fusion, winchester e bond tip, federal vital shok trophy copper. all sucks.

Going to send it back to savage  for service. What a waste of time and money. Premium 300winmag are $60 per 20rd box!

另，savage说明书有木有提到accustock螺丝需要多少磅拧紧？Weatherby说明书强调一定要先拧紧后边，再拧紧前边。

Thanks for the consolation. 40"lb is the reccmondation. I did tighten the rear one then the front one. BTW, the manual also sucks. I am a CS person. This manual is one big function to cover all gun models, with spaghetti code and too many if else statements for each special case.

I switched to wm because of wide ammo availability.

Mine groups around 0.5MOA all day long. Result is so reliable that it is boring to shoot

Not 前辈, but 2MOA is too much for any modern bolt action file.

"high end" savage should group less than one MOA with good commercial hunting load, many can approach 0.5 with hand load. Don't take NO for an answer.

Federal 180gr trophy copper. $60 per box. People I go with prefer non toxic bullets. Even regular softpoint would still be $40 per box
