your 40 yard accuracy is not good for hunting. my RWS magnum shoot small bird at 30-35 yard no issue. 40 yard has more misses. I get rid of the spring gun and found HW100 is amazingly accurate and quieter. GERMAN also makes excellent trigger. 20 yard 5 shots hole in hole or worst hole touch hole.
one with note is hw100. break-in period. first few shots after sighted in.
the other is Mrod 25, also 20 meter, top left is sighted in. others are for confirmation and trigger happy. also JSB 25.4 GRAIN.
both 56mm scope with side wheel. both can have night vision on.
modern target barrel are honed so no break-in needed. less than 10 shots to sight-in and then shot. I do lube all my pellets. also I also do weight check with muzzle load powder scale (accurate to 0.01 grain) and JSB pellet do have 0.1 grain weight difference among 10 pellets. good enough for hunting.
I recently shot a 100 yard rabbit with night vision, I did not turn on cross line light, so I just aim for body. one shot did not kill immediately, rabbit jump up and down for 20 seconds.
good. I have not shoot 500 pellets in my 177 or 25 so far in past 3-4 years. but both my barrels are match target barrels, no need to break-in. I do wash and lube all my pellets. check youtube or google it.
