I miss the old times, standing alone on the bow in my sharply pressed "crackerjack", just minutes before sunset, solemnly, in parade rest.
The water would be calm and peaceful, the Mighty Mo and a few other warships would be in my view, and the USS Arizona Memorial is about the only thing there that can remind people of all the death and destruction half a century ago.
And following a sharp whistle blast, a slow and sombre version of "Retreat" bugle call would begin to echo across Pearl Harbor; I would then slowly but steadily hoist down the "Don't Tread On Me" Union Jack, and that was my fondest memory of the Navy.
