i tend to agree with you on the first part of your post that the partner was no trash for telling the truth, but as far as immunity in exchange for testifying (against his partner), it's a tumor of the system, a law enforcement officer on duty is obliged to complete his/her task including following up obligations such as testifying, if the partner officer committed a crime accessory to the subject officer who is now under indictment charge, the crime need to be tried through due process with applicable vehicle of laws, given the accessory, or the partner being a Caucasian who failed to exercise his sworn in duty such as performing resuscitation, was promised an immunity for breach of NYPD protocols in exchange for testify against Liang, the entire Chinese community has reasons to petition in favor of Peter Liang, being a Chinese rookie offier who violated a NYPD field operating protocol which ended up with an accidental discharge of his service Glock that stroke and killed Gurly, it's the system we are petitioning, it's the inequality that one officer is to be indicted and the other isn't, in my humble opinion, i am not saying the ultimate goal of the petition is for Liang to be relieved from all possible charges, but a fair justice service. |
