Of course this does not change the fact that warning shots are dangerous. In my opinion, firing a warning shot is just as dangerous as firing at your assailant, only you are increasing the chance of causing unintentional injury and damage.
Shooting straight up, outdoors, into the sky is relatively safe, since free falling bullets cannot build up enough momentum to cause serious injury; however, firing up at an angle will cause the bullet to travel a long distance and still retain enough energy to maim and kill.
Shooting down can cause the bullet to ricochet. Fragments of the bullet may cause injury as well. |
