357 mag deer is great. read forum that 357 mag killed bear in 4 shots. that guy will move up for 44 mag. youbue shows 44 mag killed hog and 110 yard deer with scope. rifle is relatively easy and handgun is similar to crossbow. a lit bit more challenge.
With a 92FS, saw a big boar at 25 yards. Shot 5-6 rounds and didn't touch it.
Saw over dozen of piglets, 20 yeards. shot over 10 rounds and didn't touch them.
Figured that the pistol was sighted in for target shooting. It shot too high.
My daughter laughted at me again. "Dad, did you get anything?"

see the last comment about 1911 45 cal small hog hit. bullet perfect mushroom but hog keep running. 1911 45 at 10 feet is not enough for small hog. so you just educated hogs in your trip. see many 44 mag handgun shot down hog, bear down, and deer down. Cabelas has Ruger redhawk 44 mag 7.5 inch and 9.5 inch berrel length for less than $1000.

If you can approach a hog to 25yards or less. Then, a bow with arrow would be much more accurate a ...
yes. per the link story (1911 45 cal, 10 feet hog hitting not run away), i think cxiaoga DID hit the hog, but did not kill right on the track, did not reach vital and did not through hole. 357 mag or 44 mag will do. arrow will be more lethal. i read below: 55 gallaon barow.horizontal. full of water. close range. 3006 did penetrate but arrow did.
so i have enough reason that you hit it. FMJ will drill a small hole in and small hole out (if out). BUT WILL NOT DEFORM and WILL NOT casue hydro shock (assume your handgun is sub sonic when hit). FMJ is not hunting bullet. HP may be better, barnes hp may penetrate deeper and open to flower pedals. guessing.
I saw youtube that people do use 44 mag or 357 mag. I have face and face talked with one red neck who can shoot 2 inch group in 100 yard with his 44 mag (scoped on shooting stick). I am thinking 44 mag for bear hunting protection. is debating 7 inch or 9 inch barrel. see link below https://www.google.com/#q=44+mag+revolver+hunting
