no, but I retired. I have a 870 smoothbore and a muzzleloader savage. is muzzle load ok? re shot gun. 12 g or 20 g?

Q) Can I use my muzzleloader to hunt black bear?
A) Yes, provided you are in possession of a valid Rifle Permit, Firearm or All-around Sportsman license, and a black bear hunting permit and using a single barrel rifle muzzleloader not smaller than .44 caliber

thanks!  will check NJ hunting license and bear permit.  the muzzle loader is namely 50 cal.  slug is 0.45 cal.

really like to go but I have white tail deer hunting pre scheduled on 12/12/14.  NJ bear is 12/8-/12/13. have to skip this year. but looking for next. thanks!   
what kind of slug rifle you guy are using?  20 gauge or 12 gauge?  how close the shooting range?  50 yard or 100 yard?  I am prone to buy a 20 gauge savage for less recoil and flatter shooting, good for deer too, less than 2 moa with right ammo, but I read that the CANADIAN black bear guide STRONGLY recommend 12 gauge whining 50 yards, since their bear is bigger in north AND NO ONE LIKE TRACKING.  I read that your area 1 is next to PA where huge black bear can be found.  I know 20 gauge have killed black bear, but 12 gauge can tolerate more shot placement errors and can lay down bear quicker.

We use 12 gauge since I only have 1 shotgun for hunting and home defense. I have a 24' rifled barrel with scope which can shoot 200-300 yards with sabot slug. However, I won't shoot for more than 100 yards. This  will be my first time for black bear hunting and I still have a lot to learn.
Where will you go for whitetail?

I am in TEXAS. our group of 4 draw TEXAX management deer hunting. it is not easy so we will go.
what ammo you are going to use? I now thinking this set up
1. savage ML 0.50 cal with Barnes triple shock, 300 grain hollow point, 100% copper bullet is good for penetration. this is one shot but accurate to 1.5 moa at 100 yard.
2. 870 smooth bore with this slug http://www.midwayusa.com/product ... -lead-slug-box-of-5, see first customer review of the slug performance on Alaska bear skull penetration test and what Alaska LEO bring in their 870 for bear and grizzly protection.  this is my back up gun with 5 shells in it. good for 50 yard.  I installed a timney trigger for it and the trigger is super smooth.  suggest you should have a back up gun or at least 44 mag handgun.
3.  I am still going to buy a savage 20 gauge with a nice Nikon scope (I have a brand new 4-12x50mm with side focus at home sitting there).

by the way, I also shoot crossbow, Excalibur 225 lb draw, 3 shots one inch group at 30 yard .  now I can put night vision on it for pitch dark night hunting.

你这crossbow 只有在德州和少数几个州才算bow hunting工具，其它的州就算是firearm一样的工具。
