@ Jesse Beaumont: I agree: He (and probably like MANY people who carry) was having trouble with the concept of taking a life, even a POS's life. THAT psychological issue should have been recognized & addressed earlier when a person decides to carry.
So he was playing "mental catch-up" (meaning he was stalled in acting physically) whereas the criminal had NO such psychological trouble with taking lives.
As I've said before, criminals' lives aren't worth anything (even THEY know that, one reason they risk dying every time they commit a crime -- they don't care even about themselves), so don't hesitate to shoot THEM. You even SEE a gun on an assailant (or knife, baseball bat, screwdriver, whatever) -- shoot. And keep shooting until the trash hits the floor (preferably dead, or will bleed-out before the EMTs arrive).
With criminals, you need not only to get as primitive/savage down-&-dirty as THEY are, but even MORE so as that's all they understand -- violence. So give it to them and make sure they don't survive the incident.
